As a parent who had the privilege of meeting my son after a seven-year journey, I have experienced firsthand the life-affirming wonder of becoming a parent. I have also come to know the vulnerability, anxiety, grief, and fear that can accompany it. My son, now eight, has taught me more than anyone I have ever met about the wonder, complexity, and unpredictability of the human experience.
Supporting children and youth as they navigate these precious and precarious years is one of my greatest privileges as a therapist. When I work with young people, I consider not only the therapeutic relationship we are building together, but also the lifelong relationship they may develop with therapy and seeking support. A person’s first experience with therapy can shape how they understand help, vulnerability, and support for years to come. I strive to provide young people with a space that is safe, consistent, compassionate, and affirming—one where they can feel understood, respected, and supported as they navigate this formative experience.
